Structured Literacy Trainer & Coach (Bay Area)

Job Overview:

Glean Education is hiring a Structured Literacy Coach to join our Coaching Team in servicing our Bay Area partner districts with in-person Structured Literacy coaching and training support. Glean’s Structured Literacy Trainer & Coach will implement Structured Literacy coaching aligned with Glean’s Structured Literacy Coaching Model in an in-person and remote capacity. The ideal candidate will be a warm, reliable, and organized professional who has a passion for supporting teachers to better understand Structured Literacy and the Science of Reading to maximize their instructional effectiveness in the classroom.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

1. Coaching 

  • Deliver virtual dialogical coaching sessions aligned with the Glean Coaching Model to teachers in Glean’s client districts with coaching in their partnership contracts (*Training on the Glean Structured Literacy Model will be provided upon hiring.)

  • Build rapport with district leaders and coaches to understand client context, needs, and areas of support by creating a positive, warm, and supportive coaching environment that involves dialogue, a sense of humor, empathy, and patience.

  • Model and deliver data talks on student literacy data to build coach capacity for delivering data talks in their own coaching sessions. 

  • Reporting on all sessions and providing follow-up to ensure integration of skills that drive impact

  • Create monthly progress reports for Glean leadership with updates on teachers coached, barriers, successes, and Glean Coaching system improvement ideas

  • Track student data related to the coachee to build an understanding of student improvement efficacy

  • Present student improvement efficacy data related to coaching to Glean Leadership quarterly.

  • Record and share coaching sessions as needed for internal feedback and professional development

  • Collaborate and build out resources relevant to the work of coaching to ensure effective systems and high-quality resources

  • Work with clients between the hours of 8:30 - 4:30 PST.

2. Training & Facilitating

  • Co-deliver and/or deliver training to school leaders, teachers, interventionists, and other school staff on concepts rooted in the Science of Reading.

  • Facilitate monthly coaching PD district-designated teacher leaders or coaches on coaching best practices using Glean’s Structured Literacy Coaching Training for district coaches to build capacity and sustainability with regard to literacy coaching.

  • Attend teacher training and quarterly school leader consulting sessions for the client districts in your region

3. Reporting & Communicating

  • Attend weekly internal meetings.

  • Communicate progress on client districts to Glean team members.

  • Report on progress to client stakeholders.

4. Technical and Business Expertise 

  • Use Zoom, Calendly, GoReact, Canva, and Google Suite to schedule and deliver coaching sessions. 

  • Understand Client barriers and thought partner with the Glean team to address them. 

Qualifications & Experience: (Hiring manager to review and update as needed.)

  • A Master’s Degree is required (comparable work experience will be considered) with major coursework related to literacy.

  • Significant experience presenting professional development to educators.

  • Must have training in LETRS, Glean Education’s Online Learning Academy, Orton-Gillingham, AIM Institute, Keys to Literacy, and/or other Science of Reading-based professional learning.

  • Proficient in delivering reading instruction based on the Science of Reading, Structured Literacy instructional practices, and Data-Based Decision Making.

  • 8-10 years of previous experience as an early elementary educator, reading specialist, interventionist, instructional coach, school leader, or administrator with a proven track record of meeting or exceeding literacy objectives and goals.

  • Comfort running multiple projects simultaneously

  • Business travel by air or car may be required for annual internal and occasional (no more than 2x per year) external business meetings

  • Technologically Savvy

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Where, When, & How Much:

This position is California-Based with travel required weekly around the Bay Area. Salary Range for Full-Time (40 hours per week): $68,000 - $88,000 plus benefits depending on experience. Benefits for our full-time employees include 80% company-paid medical care, unlimited PTO, 10 company holidays per year, and two paid weeks of all-company closure per year. Our team will also have Fridays off between July 1 and August 31. The start date for the position is July 15th.
